2017 Week 4 Challenge – Painting

Painting

Have you ever taken an art class? I started exploring art at the Alberta art gallery and taking classes there four years ago. It’s been awhile since I took a class but I find painting to be an enjoyable activity for self expression. Try at a drop in class, or do some painting on your own.

Ah, painting, my old nemesis

What I mean by that is that I was terrible as a kid. Like, really terrible. It pissed me off.

Funny story time

Back in Grade 2, we did an art project where we used different color paper to make a landscape…I think something in the arctic. Mine looked like utter shit. So, here’s the funny thing…the teacher hung them up outside our classroom, and then called each of us one by one to ask which one was ours to write our name down.

I think you can see where this story is going.

When I was called outside, I took a quick scan, found a nice one with no name on it, and said that was mine. Done.

Kids do the strangest things yes?

Funny…a few minutes later, one of my close friends at the time gets called to go say which one is his, and I hear him yell loudly:

Hey! But that one is mine!

I guess I figured out which one I took, and for whatever reason, I never got in trouble for it.

Painting

My real work was the one on the right, but I took credit for the one on the left.

So, amusing story aside, let’s get back to painting here.

It’s one of those things where I would be “oh, I’m just not talented, and I’m not going to work on it”. Which is fucking dumb when said out loud. So I gave it a shot.

The results were terrible to say the least, but hey, that’s ok!

I had a lot of fun painting, and, because I’m lame, I’m not going to show what I painted.

In retirement, my Dad has taken up painting.

He’s gotten pretty good! I got some works of his hanging up at my place.
